Questions: How does a homeowner match and repair cracked/damaged trim paint so it blends together, without the repair standing out?

It is definitely peeling up in large chips! When chipping happens, the wood may have not been primed prior to painting.

In Summary: In this case, you'll have to scrape all of this loose paint and then prime the area before re-painting. Take those chips with you to the paint store to get your paint matched! Pro tip: Need at least a nickel-size paint sample.
