Bought a Frigidaire upright freezer. I plugged it into an outlet in the garage, and when I did it tripped the 20 amp breaker in the panel. Hooked it up to a different outlet in the garage (this one is GFCI), and it works fine. Should I go get a bigger fuse? Right now the one that trips is a 20 amp, so should I get a 30? Or is something deeper going on and I need to replace the outlet and wiring as well? Photos attached are of the tripped breaker, the first outlet I tried, then the new outlet.
Just wanted to add an update: that outdoor outlet is on the same circuit as GFCI outlets in both of my bathrooms. Not sure how much of a difference that makes.
Another update. Doing some reading and I guess I need to check to make sure it’s a 10 gauge wire - if it is then I should be able to do a 30 amp.
@jslberto I wonder if there is an internal short where a hot conductor is making contact with a part of the refrigerator frame/brackets/structure with the insulation being cut. I would probably test this by plugging into the GFCI and get it running then shake the refrigerator to do a "wiggle test" and see if you can get the GFCI to trip. If that happens I would suspect you have a wire that is failing/failed.
